May was a roller coaster of a month for grass growth. Overnight frosts at the start, followed by a pickup in temperatures, coupled with some warm rainfall bringing us our much needed burst of growth helping to aid recovery to our worn areas. The second half of the month we saw very little rainfall so moisture levels fell on the non-irrigated areas and therefore the burst of growth was relatively short. A good balance of weather has provided us with great opportunities to carry out varied tasks to improve the quality of all surfaces, see below:-
Rainfall for May 2016 = 96mm/ nearly 4 inches
Will be mown daily at 4.5mm – 5.5mm throughout the month. We will apply monthly applications of wetting agents. Solid Quadra tine and apply a light sand dressing
TEES / APRONS
Will be mown three times weekly at 10-12mm.
Will be mown two to three times weekly at 14-16mm.
SEMI ROUGH & SURROUNDS
Will be mown two three times weekly at 52 mm.
Will be mown as growth dictates.
Will be maintained daily.
If you still have strong grass growth, then it’s a good time to apply those selective weed killers to your lawns (as long as you follow the manufactures instructions). If your grass growth is slowing the moisture levels may need topping up over the next few weeks if the dry spell continues…
